The Anglo Thermal Coal Greenside Colliery needed the treatment of excess underground mine water in order to ensure continued access to resources. The mine water is typical of acid mine drainage (AMD).
The duration of the treatment and future volumes were uncertain, which is why a mobile treatment plant was installed allowing for potential future expansion, ease of decommissioning and rehabilitation once treatment is completed. The plant was designed as a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) treatment facility.
HOW PROXA ADDED VALUE
PROXA achieved a zero liquid brine generation plant using non thermal processes, protecting the environment and assisting the client in managing their future legacy risk associated with the storage of brine and salts on site. PROXA is responsible for the operations and maintenance supervision of the water treatment plant, including technical support and optimisation of the lifecycle costs associated with the operations of the plant.
