Seawater Reverse Osmosis ensures continued water supply in a harsh and drought-afflicted climate
Tronox is a mining company that mines and processes heavy mineral sands on the West Coast of South Africa. The arid nature of the area, exacerbated by a severe drought, meant that Tronox urgently needed to augment their rapidly diminishing water sources to ensure continued production.
Tronox’s proximity to the ocean made desalination technology the obvious choice. PROXA provided equipment and pre-treatment that could supply processing water to the mine within a fast-tracked time frame.
HOW PROXA ADDED VALUE
PROXA’s access to stock units across the globe meant that we were able to provide an operational alternative water supply within 12 weeks from the date of the order being placed.
A combination of containerised (AquaMobile) and skidbased systems were delivered to site for installation within 6 weeks. The site infrastructure construction, equipment installation and commissioning took another 6 weeks to produce in-specification product water.
Given our experience of similar SWRO systems and hostile operating climates, we ensured that the equipment we supplied is adequately protected against harsh weather conditions. In short, we delivered a treatment plant within a very short time frame, which will last a lifetime.
- Product flow rate of up to 1.5 MLD per day potable water
- Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO)
The combination of mobile equipment with skid-based systems is a fit-for-purpose solution that allows for future expansion. The inclusion of PROXA’s remote control system provides 24-hour monitoring by the PROXA operations hub.
