Water Treatment Management Services

PROXA’s holistic view to total water management allows us to create value for our clients – in a sustainable way – by using the life cycle cost approach. This concept extends far beyond the traditional concept of design, construction and commissioning of water systems, but includes their subsequent management, operations, maintenance and the operating costs associated with electricity, chemicals and consumables. This ensures sound asset management and maintenance that extends the life cycle of water infrastructure, as well as the on-going improvement of its economics in the long term.

As part of our strategic focus to optimise life cycle costs, recover valuable resources and protect the environment, PROXA offers a full range of complementary professional water management services, including:

Our engineers modernise existing water and wastewater treatment plants or design and construct new ones – incorporating the latest standards, technologies, regulations and sustainability practices.

PROLAB© is PROXA’s technology centre, whose team members are driven by curiosity and a desire to unlock creative, effective, short-path process solutions that enable clients to increase outputs, reduce cost, and build their bottom line.

PROLAB© is fully equipped with both bench scale and skid-mounted pilot plant equipment that is capable of testing a diverse range of unit operations, on- or off-site to enhance confidence in process selection and performance. The centre also performs water analysis, membrane autopsies and projection modelling and is home to one of our most valuable assets, the R&D division. In addition to our own pioneering work, PROXA also collaborates with the University of Cape Town, University of Stellenbosch, Delft University in the Netherlands and the Water Research Commission (SA), Coaltech, Sasol and Eskom, among others.

Design and build

PROXA’s skilled engineers design water and wastewater treatment plants that cover the latest standards, technologies, regulations and sustainability practices, while respecting our client’s specific needs and requirements. Our team of experts can modernise or refurbish existing water treatment facilities and plan new ones.

We have the capability to construct projects and deliver a fully functioning facility. Our project management team guarantees quality, meets schedules and minimises on-site risk.

Operations & maintenance

Given the critical nature of water and wastewater treatment plants, they require high uptime and very specific performance. PROXA currently operates more than 350 effluent and wastewater systems across South Africa, Australia and the Middle East through our proven management operation and maintenance contract frameworks.

Regardless of whether the water and wastewater treatment plant is designed and constructed by us, or another party, we operate and maintain them according to the following objectives:

  • Meet required KPI’s with respect to quality, availability and throughput.
  • Optimise production costs.
  • Ensure compliance with the health, safety, environment and quality regulations.

What’s more, PROXA has combined our significant experience and consolidated our plant operations and maintenance services into a single support package. This offering is designed to optimise our client’s water treatment plants and equipment to make sure they operate efficiently and in a sustainable way.

Service level agreements are tailored to the requirements of each site and may range from a monthly performance review to the establishment of permanent on-site water expertise. In all cases, the objective is to provide more continuous on-line time, improved performance and reduced overall cost of ownership.

  • Access to an extensive network of operations and maintenance experts across the country.
  • Cost effective funding of new infrastructure and renewal of existing assets.
  • Ongoing water and effluent quality monitoring via our accredited laboratories.
  • Skills development.
  • Continuous improvement and optimisation of life cycle cost.
  • Remote monitoring of plant.
  • Remote control of plant and equipment.

PROXA has also developed a web-enabled remote monitoring and control system that performs direct and continuous process diagnostics and performance tracking of all critical water systems. Using proprietary algorithms and dynamic process simulation techniques, Q-TRAK© can accurately analyse individual unit operations, process streams and entire plants according to a specific set of needs. The system is targeting at providing rapid technical support and preventative recommendations to plant operators and process managers by providing them with the exact information they need about their processes, exactly when they need it.

Plant & equipment

PROXA provides a range of pre-engineered standalone equipment as well as modular water treatment package plants that range in size from 5m3 per day to 10 MLD. The benefits of these units are plentiful, including: a smaller footprint, quick delivery, cost efficiency and good reliability. In short, they can provide efficient “plug and play” potable water, wastewater or water reuse solutions.

The unit’s modular nature also means that future or phased expansion, such as additional treatment steps or increased capacity, can be easily implemented.

The pre-assembled units include processes such as clarification, sand filtration, dissolved air flotation, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, softening, disc filtration, ultrafiltration, activated sludge, carbon filtration, electro deionisation and oil removal – depending on the site-specific requirements.

Modular plants are ideal for all industrial and municipal sectors and provide the following benefits:

  • Pre-engineered
  • Compact, cost effective design
  • Minimal site installation
  • Ideal for small industries, remote locations, contractors camps and villages
  • Robust design
  • Easily operated and maintained
  • Rapid deployment
  • Lower lifecycle costs
  • Good flexibility.
